It was no secret I was bullied in elementary school. I was put into therapy for it in Grade 8 for years.
High school wasn’t much different. I was a very nervous, shy young lady. I often opted out of things for fear of what might happen, a complete 180 from the woman I am today.
For some reason I begged to go a private school that most of the students from the elementary school went to. I was too scared to go to the public high school, and wouldn’t have known anyone and that aspect was simply too frightening for me.
For the first 2 years I was on my own, year 3 and 4 my brother went as well.
The bullying wasn’t as noticeable, and there were plenty of groups to join to stay busy.
One day, I was in the gym, and as is standard in high school, I had quite the crush on Larry M. All the girls did, He was quite handsome, had the white blonde hair naturally everyone ‘dyed’ to have (get it? lol)
I heard my name called, and as I turned around, he had a mouth full of spit ready, and literally hocked a loogie. In my face.
Landed right in my eye.
There can’t be many thing more derogatory to a woman than spitting in her face. In a gymnasium full of students and teachers.
He laughed. He totally thought it was funny,
I went to clean my face, and did not return to the gym.
About 10 years later, as I was serving in a local bar, he came in and thought he could get sweet.
He didn’t remember what he had done,
I wasn’t shocked. I was used to it.
Another story that shaped the person I am today.
